There is a special phenomenon that the people of Minnesota seem to observe annually—whether they like it or not,—as the weather turns towards brighter skies and warmer, longer nights. That phenomenon happens every year in April, or occasionally late march, as the snow-addled minds of Minnesotans seek refuge from the cold winter they assuredly have just experienced.
The first part of this seasonal tradition seems, to us, to be marked by the first day you decide to leave your house in shorts. It’s not typically the first day of nice weather, no no no, you’ve lived here long enough not to be led astray by Fool’s Spring. But when the weather has changed enough that it is simply no longer tenable to wear denim jeans or utility pants, you walk out of the house in your knee length shorts and ask yourselves: “Why aren’t we sitting on a patio, enjoying this nice weather?”
This phenomenon is called “Patio Pleasure,” and it’s better understood as the universal desire to shirk our daily duties and take advantage of what we’ve missed oh-so-much: soaking in the sun and the breeze on a summer day.
You may find yourself at work nonetheless, but the siren call of a crispy beverage under the shade of a Red Umbrella calls to you relentlessly, and as the day goes on, you may as well be around the corner of Fat Pants Brewing Co, since you swear you can smell the cheese curds from your desk.
Many a Minnesotan has tried to resist the pull of these Patio Pleasures, but we’re here to inform you that it is safer to listen to them and take advantage of the sun when it is out. After-all, there’s no rule that says you can’t work from the patio! You may as well scratch the itch so that you can refresh and recharge for your next day of productivity.
Luckily for you, Fat Pants has two patios, both privy to the breeze and the warmth of the sun, where you can sit down for lunch, drinks, appetizers, dinner, or simply to shoot the breeze with your favorite people.
