A Kid's Introduction to Tradition: Kidtoberfest

Growing up, we often find it easy to overlook tradition. At least I always did.

From the Holiday parties we get dragged to with our families, to the ceremonies of coming-of-age—moving from one grade to another; or wrapping up a season of sports. When you look back on your life through the lens of tradition, it can be easy to see that it meant more to the people who could look back, and not the young kids who are carrying out that tradition in front of our eyes.

But there are often moments that it clicks. And suddenly, even as a young kid, the traditions you participate in start to mean something to you, too. Maybe it is the excitement of going to bed before a big holiday, or the anticipation of seeing an uncle or aunt you've dearly missed. Maybe it was the waning of your interest in the present, and the growth of your interest in the future. Or maybe it's the moment that tradition changes a little bit, and makes room for you, even when you're too young to participate in what the adults or older kids are talking about.

That's the reason that we love to put on Kidtoberfest every year at Fat Pants Brewing Co.. Oktoberfest is perhaps the most celebrated beer and brewery tradition on the planet: with hundreds of years of hundreds of parties in hundreds of cities across the globe. But this celebration of beer and its culture clearly doesn't make a lot of space for young kids who aren't even close to being of age to participate. What could Oktoberfest offer to a young family, or a growing family?

Well, not much... until you rent half a dozen bounce houses, buy dozens of liters of soda, and throw a big party that lets the kids know they belong, too! And that's what we're doing at Fat Pants Brewing Co. on September 28th: we're getting the young families of the Twin Cities together in our parking lot to let the kids learn a bit about tradition by making it themselves. And we want your family to join us.

Come by for this Kids focused look into the tradition of Oktoberfest in the Twin Cities. While it's happening at our Brewery in Eden Prairie, it is the sort of brewery event that is meant of all of the Twin Cities. Come get a taste of Oktoberfest without having to leave the kids at home, only at Kidtoberfest!

Saturday, September 28th at Fat Pants Brewing Co., 11:00am. And then join us for our Oktoberfest proper on October 5th!
